Mississippi Votes (MS Votes) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of intergenerational synergy centering and led by young people invested in the progression of Mississippi. We do this through our programming and outreach strategy that empowers young people, encourages civic engagement, and educates communities on voting rights through place-based, grassroots organizing. Our vision is to cultivate a transformative culture of civic engagement throughout the state of Mississippi.

Overview

MS Votes is looking for a self-motivated, skilled and talented Multimedia and Communications Specialist (MCS). The MCS will be a member of MS Votes’ emerging Communications Team which reports to the Communications Director. The MCS will be responsible for providing a wide array of expertise to the Communications Team from communications strategy to design and execution of all external and internal communications.

The MCS will assist with both public relations and digital content creation.

Responsibilities: 

Sole Responsibilities 

• Conduct internal and external communications assessment; provide feedback and analysis of look and feel of organization, make recommendations and co-develop communications plan
• Re-establish, rebrand, and produce MS Votes’ podcast 
• Assist ED with research around MS Votes “Thriving Communities” theory 
• Assist with building organizational content calendar
• Design and Publish content for TikTok and IG (reels)

General Organizational Communications Support

• Co-create and/or assist with communications assets and tools (press releases, social media toolkits, etc.)
• Co-create and/or assist with communications plans for policy campaigns, internal projects
• Assist with ideation and development of strategic communications tools including, visuals, talking points, messaging maps, and background information to prepare leadership team for media and interviews
• Provide support to leadership team in crafting op-eds 

Qualifications:

We’re looking for candidates with particular strengths in the following areas:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills 
• Familiarity working with the local, statewide, or national press 
• Ability to generate new, high quality content on a short timeline with a strong personal voice as a writer and ability to speak with our organization’s voice
• Ability to maintain focus while juggling multiple deadlines
• Critical thinker with the ability to work strategically
• Energetic, enthusiastic, and able to occasionally work irregular hours and travel
• Ability to speak, write, and/or translate English to Spanish and vice versa preferred 

We’re looking for candidates with press and strategic communications experience including:

• Three or more years of work experience and/or ability to demonstrate mid-level expertise in press or strategic communications 
• Experience organizing colleagues, organizations, and/or movements while centering racial justice and equity
• Experience managing staff and collaborating in a team environment
• Experience using project management tools including: Zoom, Asana, GroupMe, and Slack

Position Details:

• Compensation: $50,000 annually 
• Monthly allowance: $150/monthly auto and cell
• MS Votes offers a competitive benefits package covering 100% of employee medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums
• Position is based in Jackson, MS
  • Moving stipend is offered to employees expected to move to Jackson, MS for this position
• Evenings and weekend hours may be necessary
• Travel Required 
  • Up to 25% travel required
  • Car and driver’s license required for in-state travel
